How To Get Help for Alchemy

There are several ways to get help with Alchemy, whether you need to know how to do something or if Alchemy is not working as expected (maybe you found a bug?) You might even want to submit an idea you had for a new feature or enhancement to Alchemy.

One of the best ways to get help is to go to the Alchemy Help online documentation. Here you will find detailed explanations of the different screens, controls, features and capabilities of Alchemy. This is basically the Alchemy User Guide and is chock-full of helpful information.

Another great place to look is right here in the Alchemy Knowledge Base. This knowledge base is expanding all the time with new information. You can search the different categories or do a search on Key Words. These articles are written by our Alchemy experts and will be very helpful as you craft your test suites.

Next, head over to the Alchemy Community and Post a Topic. This way you will be drawing from the knowledge of not only our Alchemy team, but also the entire Alchemy user base. Also, other users may have the same question/problem and will benefit from your post.

If you're feeling really adventurous, check out the Alchemy YouTube Channel. Actual videos of actual Alchemy Experts showing examples of everything from the basics of creating a suite and recording a test to more advanced topics like Reusable Functions and Passing arguments to a shared function.

If you still can't find an answer, or if you feel like you've found a bug, then open a Support Ticket and work directly with our support team to find a resolution.

When opening a support ticket, some important information to include would be:

  1. A detailed description of the problem.
  2. Steps to reproduce the problem.
  3. Screenshots or recordings of the problem including any error messages.
  4. Collect the following and upload it to the ticket:
    1. In the Alchemy execution Details, click the “View the captured source” icon to open the Source Code window.
    2. Click anywhere on the text in this window and type CTRL-A to select all content, then type CTRL-C to copy it to the Windows Clipboard.
    3. Next, you can either reply to a ticket email and paste the contents in the email, log on to Alchemy Help Center and paste the contents in a reply in your ticket, or paste the contents into a text file and attach it to the ticket.
    4. Go back to your test and in the upper right corner, click the “Open the Alchemy logging console” button. It’s the third icon from the left that looks like a monitor screen.
    5. In the Alchemy Console window, click the icon in the upper left corner, “Copy the support log to the system clipboard”
    6. See step 3 above for ways to provide this content to Alchemy Support.
    7. If for any reason you’re not able to get the logs with the above process, you can collect the log file by going to the user's Home folder (For example, on Windows: C:\Users\<your user>) and get alchemy.log. If there is more than one, put them all into a zip file and upload this file to the support ticket. Be sure to include the date and time that the problem occurred. If you are able to reproduce the problem on-demand, then please archive the existing log files, then reproduce the problem and collect the newly created log file.
